The Report

The report represents a chance to engage with a humanitarian aid challenge of your own choosing.

Building upon the theory, history and structures that you will have studied as part of this module, you will be asked to single out an issue that matters to you, based either in a specific sector (e.g. health, education, labour, the environment, food security), a named country or region (like Somalia, Yemen or the Middle East), or a structural/ management issue (such as NGO regulation, aid management, or human rights).

You will outline the issue and contextualise it, critically assessing challenges faced by NGOs. You will then conclude your report by putting forward clear recommendations for future action by the international community. Unlike an essay, the report should be written for a practitioner audience, rather than a purely academic one.

This does not mean that you should not source and substantiate your report with academic literature: on the contrary, a literature review will deepen your understanding considerably and make your argument more compelling.
