Here, capitalist societies are first and foremost societies of commodity owners unlike the feudal states and therefore generate the legal form.

Looking at Pashukanis’ commodity fetishism, commodities are regarded as having a dualistic nature.

On one hand, it represents a use-value based on the social needs which they fulfill and on the other hand an exchange-value based on the quality and quantity of labour expended in their production.

One commodity may be exchanged for another commodity in a definite ratio since they are perceived and appear as equal.

The values encountered in this exchange are expressed by and facilitated through the mediation of another commodity, money, as the form of universal economic equivalent as such, what has happened here is, concrete labor and concrete commodities are reduced to abstract labour and commodities .
