SOCIOLOGY 101 Introduction to sociology

Controlled Freedom Over the past few decades, gender inequality has significantly decreased, but it has not been eliminated. This certainly depends on people, because closed-minded individuals are prone to allocate more power to males over females. Although, the number of orthodox and close-minded people has declined over the years, they have influenced many others with similar ideals and morals, by being a parent, sibling, friend, teacher, or even boss. Gender inequality exists in various fields, but in this paper I would like to get into a deeper discussion on how gender inequality has played a major role in the military. Preceding World War I, females were beginning to make way into the military as nurses, holding a desire to sooner or later become permanent members of the armed forces. Women did start out on a small note, but they fought their way into achieving their goal. Finally, in 1948, Congress passed the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act granting women permanent status in the military subject to military authority and regulations and entitled to veterans’ benefits. Despite “eliminating” gender inequality within the military from the eye’s of the public, this act led to hidden inequality, which wasn’t taken seriously at all. In a society once where women were viewed socially and legally as the property of men, either as daughters or wives, they had now broken those bonds to rise and stan…………….
