I selected Provision 2 of the ANA Code of Ethics. The provision states that “The nurse’s primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, community, or population” (Winland-Brown, Lachman & Swanson, 2015, p. 269). This statement emphasizes the obligation by nurses to identify and promote patients’ interests at all times regardless of the nurses’ personal and professional interests. The nurse must work to establish trust, respect, transparency, open communication and shared decision making with the patient and his or her family in order to ensure that the applied interventions promote the patient’s needs. I selected the provision because patient-centeredness is critical to the delivery of holistic nursing care. When the nurse prioritizes patient’s needs and interests during the delivery of care, she can develop interventions that not only respond to the patient’s healthcare needs but also his or her psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs.

GOVERNOR ANSWER
Hello and welcome to our town. We are in the process of looking at our disaster plan, which is to provide oversight after a hurricane. Fortunately, for us, FEMA is overseeing the plan. The last time we had to use this plan was during Hurricane Sandy in 2013. Please enjoy your time here. I would love to take a selfie with you.

PATIENT BP: 130/90 MMHG
PATIENT ANSWER: I am on a low sodium diet. I have increased my exercise frequency to three times a week.
According to Jamerson and Byrd (2017), a person with prehypertension will have systolic blood pressure (BP) readings ranging between 120 and 139 mmHg and diastolic readings ranging between 80 and 89. Therefore, the patient has prehypertension. Reducing sodium intake and increasing physical activity are effective measures for managing prehypertension and preventing the progression to Stage 1 hypertension. A person with prehypertension should reduce the daily sodium intake below 100mmol. This reduction can lower one’s systolic BP by between 2.0 and 8.0 mmHg (Black & Elliott, 2012). Similarly, engaging in moderate aerobic physical activity, about 30 minutes per day, can lower the systolic BP by between 4.0 and 9.0 mmHg.
