Observation Paper
The goal of this paper is to demonstrate that you can interpret what you learn in your observations to see the ‘whole’ child who moves, talks, communicates, is interested in signs/symbols, problem solves, creates new ways of doing things and demonstrates temperament, emotions and interacts with others. Be sure to include physical, cognitive, creative, language, literacy and social emotional development observations and explain how these domains of development are interconnected. Your paper should focus on what you have learned from your observations, you do not need to describe everything that the child did only those that relate to your learning and what the child has taught you through observation.
Observe two children: one infant and one toddler (this age range will provide you with the best opportunity to see as much as possible). Document the gross motor and fine motor skills that you observe. How did the child move, how did the child use their body to move? Did you see the child move their whole arm, forearm, wrist, hand, fingers, legs, trunk, etc. After your two observations reflect on what you have seen and how they link to what you have read. Cite specific examples and use objective language(as opposed to subjective language) to describe your observations.
