What sampling method did you use?

The choice of the sampling method in a phenomenological study is important to the quality and wholeness of the data and information generated through the study. Purposeful sampling is the recommended sampling strategy in a phenomenological study. It allows the selection of a sample with the most in-depth and comprehensive experiences.

How did you record the participants’ responses?

The participants’ response can be recorded in written texts, audio and video files. A combination of the three approaches supports the comprehensive and consistent data gathering (Polit, & Beck, 2017).

What were the data analysis methods?

A phenomenological study is a qualitative research. Therefore, the researchers should use the relevant qualitative data analysis methods.

What is the justification for the study?

What were the assumptions and omissions for the study?

Are there possible errors of interpretation?

Is there a possibility of competing interpretations?

Were all the themes addressed?

What strategies were used to remedy the researchers’ bias?

Does the study tie together the key themes and interpretations to allow an objective conceptualization of the phenomenon?

Interview/Questionnaire results – transcribed and recorded interviews. These materials help the reviewer to develop an objective sense of the study including its effectiveness and validity of the conclusions (Grossoehme, 2014).

Data analysis results – The statements summarize the captured experiences and should be consistent with the data.
