What is learning? How does one learn? Merriam-Webster defines learning as the “activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something: the activity of someone who learns” (Learning. (n.d.).

A French psychologist, Alfred Binet, developed the first intelligence test in 1904. This intelligence test sparked interest in individual differences, which in turn paved the way for learning styles to develop.

According to NCBI, learning styles are defined as, “characteristic cognitive, affective, and psychosocial behaviors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment” (Romanelli, 2009).

Many different types of tests can show one’s learning style. This paper will review the learning style test “VARK” and discuss how it affects learning and teaching.

OVERVIEW To assess how one learns one must take a learning styles test.
