There are many warning signs of schizophrenia, if you have or know someone with these symptoms a doctor should be consulted.
There are many different warning factors of mental illness. But every case varies in one way or another, so no two cases are like.
Symptoms of people with schizophrenia can be but into 3 different categories: Positive, Negative, and Cognitive.
Positive symptoms are not usually seen in mentally healthy people. They are not always noticable due to they can come and go depending on the person. They usually deal with the lost touch of reality.
This includes hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders, and movement disorders.
Negative symptoms are more of the emotional side of the symptoms. These are harder to identify with schizophrenia due to the symptoms tend to be mistaken for depression. These include lack of pleasure of everyday life, lack of ability to begin and sustain planned activities, and speaking little, even when being forced to.
Cognitive symptoms are subtle. They are usually found while doing other tests. Cognitive symptoms include poor exceutive functioning(ability to take information and use it), trouble focusing or paying attention, and problems with working memory (ability to use information that was just given to you)
It effects men and women equally, and the average age that schizophrenia is developed is 16 to 30 and no later than 45.
There are also many warning signs for children and young adults to show that they may be developing schizophrenia. These can include paranoia, hallucinations, decline in hygiene, unfounded anxiety and fear, withdrawn and unassociated, extreme moodiness, fragmented speech, and chaotic thoughts.
What causes Schizophrenia?
Since at this time there are no known causes of schizophrenia, it is hard to state the exact reason.
But there are some factors in which scientist have thought could play a role in the development of schizophrenia.
Such as genetics, environment, and brain structure and chemical composition.
People who have relatives with the illness are more likely to develop the illness themselves than someone who has no relation to anyone with the illness.
It has said to be true that a brain imbalance can cause schizophrenia due to the messages that are sent through the neurotransmitters are changed. But this is not a proven fact.
There are also many suspected environmental factors as well, such as malnutrition or virus’s before birth, problems during birth, heavy adolescence marijuana use, and other not known yet, psychosocial factors.
Co-occuring illnesses
When people have schizophrenia it is not uncommon for them to suffer from depression as well. Around 25% of people who have schizophrenia also suffer from a drug abuse problem. People with both disorders, called a double diagnoses, usually partake in both to “escape from the distressing experiences associated with the illness”. So these people use marijuana or stimulants such as amphetamines or cocaine which only make things worse.
Also people who suffer from schizophrenia tend to depend on family and loved ones to help them due to the fact they cannot properly do things on their own.
Treatments
Since ever case of schizophrenia is different, ever person has a different dosage and type of medication for their recovery.
Many people believe that people with schizophrenia will live a terrible life and there is no way to get better. Even though at this time, there is no known cure, but there are ways to manage it with medication. Think of is the same way a diabetes; there is no cure, but with the help of medication people can live a happy life.
The best treament that someone with schizophrenia can get is help. Talking to a doctor about the issue and getting tested is the first and best step to recovery. If you do not take this step, there is no way to recover from this illness.
Recovery for schizophrenia does not mean you will
