3. Does it have a fresh take, new twist on familiar story?

3. Obstacles, complications, reversals, twists (are there enough?)
4. Believability
5. Subplots (do they serve the main plot, are they well written and integrated?)

2. Are they 3 dimensional? (with a range of emotion and expression?)
3. Motivation-does it make sense? Are there actions believable & consistent?
4. Flaws? Are there enough to make them interesting? Are they stale?
5. Evolution? Does the main character learn anything? Change?
6. Do the supporting characters serve a purpose?
7. Do we care what happens to these characters? Are they likeable? Relatable?
8. Are the characters stereotypes? Are they diverse?
9. Are these roles that will attract A List actors?

 

1. Dialogue
2. Reveals character traits

4. Is it a lazy substitute for visual imagery (show, don’t tell)
5. Is over- or underwritten
6. Sounds like people talking
7. Is it appropriate for the various characters?
8. Is it appropriate for the time period and culture?
9. Voice over – Is it lazy writing? Is it used appropriately and effectively?

2. What is at stake? Is it clear?
3. How crucial is it?
4. Are they stakes the audience cares about? Is it dangerous, life-saving, etc.

2. Proper setup of main character and conflict in the beginning
3. A middle that smoothly follows character development and pursuit of the goal
4. An ending that resolves the conflict presented in the beginning
5. A satisfactory ending. Does the character change, learn anything?
6. If it doesn’t follow traditional 3 Act structure-why not? Is the attempt effective?

 

1. Pace
2. Fast, slow, or varied
3. Appropriate for the tone and theme of the piece
4. Are you bored?
