Combustible material in another room can be heated to its ignition point and catch fire. Although metallic objects are the most common conductors of heat, bricks can also conduct enough heat from one place to another to start a second fire. Radiation occurs when heat is transferred through space as waves of energy, and can occur through any transparent medium such as glass, air, or water. A fire in one building can radiate enough heat to start a fire in another building through a curtain of water sprayed between the buildings by firemen.
