Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department. Note: An RN graduate is a nurse who has completed a course of study at a school of nursing and is eligible for the NCLEX. The RN graduate performs directly under the supervision of the charge nurse or RN designee.

1. Why did you choose to become a nurse?

When I was 12 years, my chronically ill grandmother moved in with us because she was no longer able to live independently. Although my mother assumed the primary caregiver role, my sister and I helped grandma to perform various self-care activities after school, on weekends and during school holidays. Caring for grandma made me realize the challenges faced by people with debilitating conditions who could not afford formal hospice care services. This experience influenced my desire to become a nurse.

My current goal is to apply my knowledge and skills to the delivery holistic care. The RN job will give me the chance to enhance my experience in various aspects of nursing care. This experience will inform my choice of the most appropriate specialty area to focus on in my advanced education and training. Once I have chosen my specialty area, I will enroll in the relevant masters and Ph.D. programs. In the end, I hope to become a nurse theorist and educator. Case Scenario

• Why do you think you are the best person for the person?

            I have worked in different healthcare settings as an intern and volunteer. Therefore, I am conversant with the different types of patents and the most appropriate care delivery approaches for each category of patient. I know the quality of care expected of the staff. I have strong work ethics, interpersonal skills and I am eager to build on my basic nursing skills. Case Scenario

• Research the organization’s mission, vision and organizational structure – This knowledge will help me to align my interview responses with the organization’s goals and perspectives regarding satisfactory service delivery.
• Research the key duties and responsibilities for the advertised position – This research will give me a better understanding of the expected values, attitudes, behaviors and performance by the ideal candidate.
• Rehearsing the interview – The rehearsal will give me the chance to identify the potential interview questions and the appropriate responses. Furthermore, it will help me to practice the interview etiquette and the way to remain calm and confident during the actual interview (Keogh, 2017).

I would wear business attire for the interview. The attire would include a navy blue or black blazer with a matching blouse, skirt and official shoes. I will bring copies of my resume, a list of the questions to ask the interviewer, a pen, notepad and any other material specified in the job advertisement.

Your best friend, Lindsey, and you are working together in the surgical ICU. Often you cover for her when she goes to lunch or on breaks. You notice that often her clients complain of being in pain, even though she has told you that she medicated them right before she left the unit. You also notice that she appears to be very jumpy and short-tempered and a bit disheveled when she comes to work. You are suspicious that she is using the medications that she says she is giving to her clients.

Professional Misconduct

1. What should you do first?

My first response would be to conduct a private investigation focused on determining the causes of the patients’ complaints. The obtained information would help to support or disapprove my suspicions and guide me on the next course of action.

• What might be the consequences if you decide to do nothing?

The main consequence of my failure to do anything would be adverse patient outcomes due to the non-treatment or under-treatment of the patients’ conditions (Yoost, & Crawford, 2015). Other consequences include lawsuits for professional misconduct and suspension or termination of licenses.
