As you work on the next piece of this project, refer to the preliminary research you did based. On part one chapters 1, 2, and 3 in the text. By now you should have a fairly dear mental picture of your “dream store” The following will guide you through the next installment of the project (based on Part Two Chapter 4, S, 6. and 7) Note You’ll be doing floor plans and planograms, so graph paper may be helpful here and will help you establish a consistent scale (for example, 1 square = 1 foot) for future drawings and elevations
Section One
• lay out your store’s selling departments in a proposed basic floor plan On it, locate office/storage space, restroom(s), and fitting rooms (if appropriate). You may add space for these items along the store’s back wall if you can justify the extra floor space. In that case, show access points. Explain why you feel you need the extra space Refer to the samples shown in Chapter 4
• With your target customers in mind, name some of your “must haves” in terms of store layout.
Section Two
• Design the store’s interior in terms of its atmospheric elements—sounds, lighting and lighting levels, displays, and traffic patterns. This will probably entail a combination of sketches and written descriptions You will be able to refine your plans for lighting after you have read Chapter 9 in Part Three Explain what kind of physical image you want this store to communicate. • Choose furnishings and fixtures that ««try out the Store’s brand image message a* you present the merchandise to customers You may design your own fixtures *>< u*e photographs and illustration* from punt or Internet sources • Explain why the fixtures you’ve chosen will facilitate both merchandise presentation and store image • Develop a planogram key to label the types of fixtures that you’ve chosen • Devise a scale planogram to show locations of fixtures throughout the store (a floor “set”). Indicate what type of merchandise you’ll be placing on or in each fixture, for example, folded leans, long sleeved sweaters, toys for toddlers, lamp*, or stemware.
