Kenmitsu system is a religious system that providesand stipulates the way people should live religiously, politically and socially. This system illustrates the origin of Japanese religion. The Japanese religion has a long history. The religion was recognition of independent Buddhist sects. The rise of State Shinto and the separation of Shinto from Buddhism resulted to the rise of different religions in Japan.
There are three main points which explain the origin of the religion in Japan. First, the disintegration of the Asian community, this was the foundation of the modern community. The second factor is the emergence of the peasant class. These were the independent small scale farmers. This was a clear feature which defined social development. Third, the state decided to organize and maintain systems of control. This clearly explains the transition from ancient to medieval times.

Kenmitsu Taisei theory
This is a theory that clearly explains and interprets Japanese religion and medieval society. This theory explains different phases of Japanese Buddhism development. It also explains the issue of orthodoxy and heterodoxy clearly. The theory states that there is clearly a different view of the New Buddhism. It shows the gap that exists between the original Buddhism and the New Buddhism. However, the theory rejects the New Buddhism centered view. Some of the important things identified in the new Buddhism are the different sects which include Zen sect, Jodo Shin sect, and Nichiren sect. This theory can be employed as a methodological category because it is related with the medieval religious history in Japan.

The third is consideration of other factors apart from the estate owner system. The second period mostly focused on the relationship between the first and the third period. He clearly identified whether the medieval period focused on polytheism or monotheism.
