The Journal Summaries are designed to assist you with your Research Paper, teach you how to search for scholarly journal articles, as well as to practice using APA format. In theory, you should be able to take a well-written journal article
and incorporate it into your research paper easily.

For each Journal Summary, you will select 3 full-text, scholarly journal articles that directly relate to the topic that
you selected in Week 1. Read and review each article. Save each article as a PDF file. Your summary should be a
compilation of your review of the three articles that you selected. The Journal Summary should include a title page,
abstract page, the summary of your three selected articles and the reference page in one Microsoft Word document.

Four documents in total should be included in your submission. You will submit the three PDF documents that you saved (one
for each article summarized) and your Journal Summary.
A grading rubric is provided to ensure you follow the expectations. Submit your Journal Summaries in Modules/Weeks 3 & 5.

Selecting Articles

“Full-Text” and “Peer-Reviewed”. If you just enter the theorist’s name or the name of his/her theory, you probably won’t
come up with many articles. Instead, select portions of the theory, key words or phrases to use as your search. This will
aid you in finding articles.

Your articles should be from scholarly journals. The journal should have the word “Journal” in the title (Journal of
Marriage and Family, etc.). Ideally, your Journal Article should have a Methods section, Data, Results and Conclusion
sections. You should not use book reviews or magazine articles.

Title Page

Your title page should include your name, date, course and section (centered, double spaced).
You will also include a header with the Running head flush left and the page number flush right. .It should be an
abbreviated title in all caps and should not exceed 50 characters.
Each page, including your Title Page, should have a header but only the title page should include the words “Running head”
in the header. In Microsoft Word, click Insert and then Header.

Abstract

Your abstract should be on a new page and say Abstract at the top, center of page 2 in plain text. Use block format (not
indented), should be between 150–250 words and should include general information about the Journal Articles that you
have selected.

Journal Summary 1

The text of your summary should be at least 3 pages and should be a brief summary of each of the 3 journal articles
selected. Preferably, you will have one page per article with headings at the beginning of each new section. Each Journal
Article should relate directly to the topic that you selected in Week 1.

In-text citations

In-text citations are vital for your paper. You will need to cite any and all information or ideas that are not your own.

“If you directly quote, you will need quotation marks along with the page number at the end of the citation” (Gibson,
2010, p. 123). If you summarize a reference, then you do not need to include the page number at the end of the citation
(Gibson & Stevenson, 2010). Both of the previous sentences are examples for you to help you correctly cite information.

Headings

You are encouraged to use headings in your paper to differentiate between sections.

Reference Page

Make sure that your reference page says Reference(s) (plain text, centered) at the top of your Reference page.

The references should be in alphabetical order with hanging indentions. In Microsoft Word, you can highlight your
reference, right click, click Paragraph, then in the Indention section of the box that opens, click Special and then
select Hanging.

Be sure that your references are APA stylized and include where you obtained your reference from if it was obtained
online. An example is below:

Jonas, K., & Bromer, P. (1997). Effects of attitudinal ambivalence on information processing and attitude-intention
consistency. Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, 33¸190-21-. Doi:10.1006/jesp.1996.1317
RESEARCH PAPER INSTRUCTIONS

Please use at least 10 scholarly references for your paper. Five of these references should be scholarly journal
articles. Websites, online dictionaries, or online encyclopedias may not be used in your Research Paper.

The paper should follow APA style and follow the specific directions outlined below.

A grading rubric is provided to ensure you follow the expectations of the paper. Submit your Research Paper no later than
