In an acute care hospital with not more than 30 beds will patient’s satisfaction increase with improved nursing level of communication?

P- (Patient, population, or problem): The research will involve the Patient Care Assistants, the Unit Secretaries and the Registered Nurses (RN) in the hospital’s acute care.
I- (Intervention): Communication education is key. There will be videos such as the Heart-Head-Heart produced by Lee, 2011. Other materials include the 4ps as presented by Woodward in2009. The research will test the communication tool and the hourly rounding.

C- (Comparison with other treatment/current practice): the research will compare the consumer assessment of the overall healthcare system
O- (Desired outcome): The outcome must indicate improved satisfaction improving the patients and the overall consumer satisfaction in the entire healthcare system
What is the practice issue/problem?
Patient satisfaction issues relate well with how nurses communicate with them. It has become a universal problem across the healthcare system in the country. The research will ask patients whether nurse treats them with respect and courtesy. Do nurses care to listen to your concern? The patient will answer these questions based on what they perceive of the care received during the hospitalization period.

Search terms:
The process will apply keyword search relating to literature and articles. The key words will help in collecting evidence-based details thus guiding the project. The key word will include hourly rounding. Patients care, patients safety, patient satisfaction and nursing care.

Databases to search: the Academic Search Premier, PudMed, Ovid, Medline, CINAHL will form the data base for the research
Search Strategies: The research will use articles with evidence focusing on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) guidelines. The other articles will have evidence collected through randomized trials from with small to moderate sample sizes. The non-randomization but well-designed trials and the articles dealing with descriptive studies will be key to this study.
