This chart will be followed by a discussion of the context within which the supply chain generally operates (globalisation and international integration) and the observed nature and structure of the specific commodity chain in focus and the characteristics of the facilitating technologies. You will then develop a formal report examining the opportunities and challenges that could be associated with the commodity chain identified but with specific reference to its technologies, that is, the key opportunities that organisations in the supply chain can draw on and the key challenges they are likely to face, based on the nature of the particular commodity, and other components such as globalisation, technologies and international economic integration. You should focus on both the upstream or downstream elements of their supply chain, and can choose a technology or combination of technologies to address the different upstream/downstream activities. The technology does not have to be limited to the technologies covered in class. The report will include: –Executive Summary –Table of Contents –Introduction/contextualisation of your report –Selection of your commodity/product/organisation –Diagram of your supply chain –General discussion of your supply chain –A focus on an upstream technology to support/enhance operations –A focus on a downstream technology to support/enhance operations –Summary of the implications of technology in your selected chain (and include any recommendations you would like to make to improve their operations)
