The world in more open to everyone than ever before in history of mankind with the advancements of technology, we are able to consult doctors face to face in other countries with the simple use of a webcam, robotics have been created to allow doctors to performs a surgery from different country than the patient is in (National Geographic, 2010), and people can travel to another country in a matter of hours.

With all this mass amount of sharing of favorite pop stars, movies, and games that is going around the world, it is easy to forget that as much as we are alike, we are different individual for different areas that value different customs and practices.

The technology of today really makes the ability for immigrants to come to a new country like the United States easier. The immigration of people to another country like the United States is not a new event. In 1997, the U.S. census report projection for immigration only shows the exponential growth of the population with the projected new immigrants at 310,133 in 2015 and 335,050 in 2025 (Campbell, 1997).

However, in 2013, the estimated number of immigrants that were living in the U. S. were 41.3 million, making up 20 percent of the worlds international immigration (Zong and Batalova, 2015), and well above the estimated projections of 1997.

With the amount of people coming into the United States and having children, the cultural differences is going to be astounding not only from immigrants and nonimmigrants but between the different generations with in one immigrant family as the initials immigrants culture becomes the heritage of their grandchildren.

All of this mixing of information and latest trends, it is easy to forget that no two places are the same, making the people practices and beliefs different. This is an important thing not to forget when treating a patient.

The information about a patient’s background and customs can be invaluable in not only finding the right treatment, but in the best way to approach educate them to help prevent future diseases.
