LSC 1103 Research Paper
Topic: Cause and Effect or Problem/Solution
Choose a topic. Your teacher must approve your topic before beginning.

Your report will be around 1000 words long and must include 4-5 sources on your reference list. One source must be a website, one source must be from a college database, one source must be from a book, and one source must be a video.
You will write a 100-word summary of each source with an in-text citation at the end of the summary and the full reference at the bottom.
The texts should be between 600-800 words long. The video should be 5-20 minutes long.
Writing must be done in class.
This project must be your own work, written in your own words. No copy and pasting is allowed as this is plagiarism. Any plagiarism will result in a mark of 0% and may be referred to the college for disciplinary action.
• Summary 1: A website
Find a website on your topic (600 – 800 words).
Write a paragraph (150-200 words) summary.
Write the in-text citation at the end of the summary.
Write the full reference under then heading References.

Summary 2: Database
Find a database source for your topic.
Try using ELibrary or Student Resource Center.
Find a source of 600-800 words on your topic.
Write the main ideas of the source in your own words. Write 150-200 words.
Write the in-text citation at the end of the paragraph.
Write the full reference under the heading References.

Summary 3: A Book or Ebook
Find a source that is book-based.
Use the HCT library catalogue, an HCT database, an Encyclopedia, or an ebook found online.
Write a 150-200 word summary of your source.
Add the reference at the bottom under the heading “References.”
Write an in-text citation at the end of the summary.
You DON’T need to summarize the entire book. You can use only a section (600-800 words) of the book.
Summary 4: A Video
Find an online video about your topic. Check TEDx and YouTube. The video should be 5-20 minutes long.
Write a summary of the main ideas in the video (150-200 words).
Write the in-text citation at the end of the summary.
Write the full reference at the bottom under the heading “References.”
How to cite a video:
Name of videomaker. (year, mon. day). Title of video. [Video file]. Retrieved from url
Bellofolletti. (2009, April 8). Ghost caught on surveillance camera
[Video file]. Retrieved from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
=Dq1ms2JhYBI&feature=related
If there is no name for the video maker, put the title first.
For the in-text citation (Author, year) or (“Title,” year) [if there is no name for the video maker].

1) Sestion 1 ( The Background Report))Write a description of the topic/the problem. This part of your writing should include some background information about this topic. How it started and how it developed. First write about it worldwide and narrow it down to the Middle East.

2) Section 2( Causes ) Write about the causes,both natural and man-made causes behind this topic.

3) Section 3 ( Effects) Write about the results and consequences.

4) Section 4 ( Solutions) What solutions have been suggested? And what do you suggest.
